Modcomp helps BCIS ensure clients experience no problems with service after migrating their browsers to IE7
Microsoft’s new browser product, Internet Explorer (IE) 7 was released this week. This is the first major upgrade of Explorer since version 6 was released five years ago. The new browser has some important new features. In particular improved security, integrated RSS feeds capability and “tabbed” windows have caught the media’s attention. But there are also many 'under the cover' improvements and changes.
Internet Explorer is still the most widely used browser for the web. Over the coming months many users will upgrade to IE7. For many of Modcomp’s customers who have eCommerce web sites there is a significant risk. If their site should run slowly or not work properly with IE7, then as users migrate to the new browser, there will be a serious impact on the usage of these commercially important web sites.
Modcomp has recently undertaken a number of studies to test customer’s commercial web sites against IE7. For example the Building Cost Information Service (BCIS) part of Royal Institution for Chartered Surveyors (RICS) runs an important web based subscription service for paying members. BCIS users are probably going to be early adopters of the new browser. Modcomp, as a Microsoft Certified Partner, obtained an early version of IE7 and tested the BCIS subscription site against this. After the completion of a thorough test programme, a number of important changes were implemented. The new site was given a clean bill of health ensuring that BCIS’ customers will not see any degradation or loss of service as they start deploying IE7.
