Modcomp delivers shop floor application using Motorola hand held computers running Windows Mobile Server 5.0

Decoma Sybex, a supplier of exterior vehicle appearance systems to some of the world’s biggest car and vehicle manufacturers, today launched the latest software application to support its drive to maintain the highest levels of customer service.

Delivered by Modcomp, the Windows Mobile application enables workers on the shop floor to quickly and efficiently label and load parts for one of Decoma’s most important customers.  This has greatly reduced the amount of time the customer requires to remove and fit the parts to new vehicles.

Modcomp built the application using Microsoft .Net 2.0 and used Microsoft SQL Server as the underlying database. But it was the use of Windows Mobile 5.0 which makes the application so beneficial on the factory floor. Running on hand held Symbol Personal Digital Terminals (PDTs) with Windows Mobile 5.0 as the operating system, the application can be accessed via a browser and can be driven by the bar code reader on the mobile device making the application accessible and usable anywhere on the factory floor.

Decoma designs, engineers and manufactures automotive exterior components and systems for cars and light trucks (including sport utility vehicles and mini-vans). Decoma has approximately 16,000 employees in 54 manufacturing, engineering and product development facilities in Canada, the United States, Mexico, Germany, Belgium, England, Japan, France, Poland, Austria and the Czech Republic.
